A halogen lamp MR-16 or recessed MR-16 light is another type of incandescent lamp. It is also the most common lamp used in accent lighting for retail displays, artwork, and to highlight landscape features. Halogen lamps have a longer life and are slightly more efficient then traditional incandescent lamps. A great benefit to the halogen lamp is its small filament size. This allows its use in reflector lamps that can be carefully designed to focus the lamp's total light output in a very small area when needed to highlight an object.

The discussion of track lighting can be divided into two parts: the track itself and the luminaries that are attached to it.

Track is an electrical raceway, usually constructed of extruded aluminum, which has one side open for the insertion of a compatible track fitting, usually a luminary.
