Track is an electrical raceway, usually constructed of extruded aluminum, which has one side open for the insertion of a compatible track fitting, usually a luminary. The track may be built to accommodate one, two, three, or four circuits, with one-circuit track being the most common. Most tracks are designed for 120 volt service, with 20 amps capacity per circuit. Track lengths of 2, 4, and 8 ft are the most common. Most track systems may be surface mounted to ceilings or walls, recessed flush with the ceiling, or suspended from stems.

Luminaires for track, sometimes called track heads, take many forms, but in virtually all cases, form follows function.

Tracks come in 2way, 3 way and 4 way in which 2 are reserved for poor supply and rest are for holding the fitting.
